Privacy Policy

Last updated: 17 September 2026

This policy explains what data Fishbowl ("the app", available at decidebetterdaily.com) collects, why, and what your rights are. We keep it short and plain on purpose. The app is operated by Decide Better Daily (contact: decidebetterdaily@gmail.com), who is the data controller under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

1. What we store and why

An account, from your first visit. When you open Fishbowl, it silently creates an anonymous account for you so that your tasks can be saved in the cloud straight away. This account has a random identifier and no personal details. If you later sign up with an email address or Google, that account is upgraded (or your data is moved to your new account). Anonymous accounts that have not been used for 30 days are deleted automatically.

Your tasks. The text of your tasks, tags, when tasks were created, started and completed, how long they took, and how often they were skipped. This is the app's core function; without it there is no Fishbowl.

Your email address, if you sign up with one, or the email address of your Google account if you sign in with Google. It is used only to log you in and to send password-reset emails. We do not send newsletters or marketing.

A usage log. To understand how Fishbowl is used and to improve it, the app records events — a task was added, skipped or completed, and its duration — together with the text of the task and your account identifier. The log does not contain your email address. It is kept pseudonymously: entries are tied to the random account identifier, not to your name or email. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in improving the app (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). If you would rather not be included, please write to us and we will exclude your account.

Data in your browser. Fishbowl keeps a copy of your tasks and your login in your browser's local storage so that the app works instantly and offline-tolerant. This storage is strictly necessary for the app to function, which is why there is no cookie banner. We do not use tracking or advertising cookies, and there is currently no analytics service.

2. Where the data lives

Fishbowl runs on Google Firebase (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland, with Google LLC, USA, as sub-processor). Authentication, the database (Cloud Firestore) and hosting are provided by Firebase. Data may be processed on Google servers in the EU or the USA. Google is bound by its Data Processing and Security Terms and the EU Standard Contractual Clauses for transfers outside the EU. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest.

To protect the service from automated abuse, the app may use Google reCAPTCHA (via Firebase App Check), which analyses technical characteristics of your browser and device. This runs in the background and does not show you puzzles.

3. Who can see your data

Your tasks and history are readable only by you: the database rules allow access solely to the account that created them. The operator can access the database for administration and to process your requests, and can see the pseudonymous usage log. We do not sell or share your data with third parties, and we do not use it for advertising.

4. How long we keep it

5. Your rights and how to use them

You can do most of this yourself, without asking us. Open the Account panel in the app (click your email at the top right):

You also have the right to rectification, to restriction of processing, to object to processing based on legitimate interest (such as the usage log), and to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority — in Germany, the authority of the federal state you live in. For anything you cannot do in the app, email us at decidebetterdaily@gmail.com. We answer within a month.

6. Children

Fishbowl is not directed at children. You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.

7. Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will show a notice in the app. The date at the top tells you when it was last updated.
